We carry all of our identities with us into supervision, as supervisees and supervisors alike. If we want to create and foster supervision spaces that are safe and affirming—spaces where both parties can show up authentically—we must bring awareness and intentionality to the process.
In this 3-hour workshop, participants will explore topics including LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent affirmation, executive functioning support in supervision, and making space for supervisors’ own needs within the supervisory relationship. The training will also address common questions supervisors face about how to acknowledge and affirm LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent identities in supervision while maintaining appropriate professional roles and boundaries.
Objectives:
- Describe how affirming LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent identities can strengthen the supervisory relationship.
- Identify strategies for incorporating executive functioning supports into supervision practices.
- Identify ways intersecting identities, including LGBTQIA+ identities and neurodivergence, may influence supervision needs and communication styles.
- Examine how implicit bias and cultural context may influence supervisory dynamics.
- Describe approaches for maintaining professional boundaries while creating affirming supervision spaces.
