Mental Health Specialty Practice Section
We are social workers trained to help people with emotional problems using modalities such as individual therapy, group therapy and crisis intervention. Examples of areas of service: counseling, disaster relief, case management, direct services, advocacy, community mental heath, coordination of care.
From Mental Health Section Connection:
"Social workers have emotions, too. We have to manage those emotions without causing any 'secondary wounding' of our service recipients. We need to take advantage of debriefing efforts that occur while we are on assignment and after we return home. The rules for recipients of our services also apply to us: Watch alcohol consumption, get rest, practice stress management techniques, and apply any of the host of other therapeutic interventions."
