This workshop will introduce a collection of ego state therapy interventions, from the Developmental Needs Meeting Strategy (DNMS), for stabilizing these clients.

In this workshop participants will experience the way mini-ideas and images, emerging within the inner mental flow of provider and client, offer rich material for creative interventions that can elicit empathic resonance, reframe negative narratives, evoke adaptive realizations, shift focus from problems to solutions and result in effective and enduring psychosocial outcomes.

Using the ASAM Criteria as the foundation of efforts to improve treatment for Substance Use Disorder amongst the aging population, at the end of this training, Social Workers will be able to understand acute intoxication and withdrawal potential amongst the aging population; explore & assess the biomedical conditions and complications faced by the aging population with substance use disorder; assess emotional, behavioral, or cognitive conditions and complications; understand and assess the stages of change; assess relapse, continued use, or continued problem potential amongst the aging population; and assess how environmental factors such as living arrangements and social support systems impact recovery.
